Jamie's Nest Conure Care
Green- cheek Conure Care
Pyrrhura is the other large genus of conures. These generally greenish conures including the very common Green-cheeked Conure. Usually smaller, duller-colored, and quieter than the Aratinga conures, the Pyrrhura conures contain almost every conure species with a hyphen in the name, and the majority of Pyrrhura species names are hyphenated.
Normal weight is about 70 grams and their average length (including tail) is 25 cm (10 inches). Lifespan 15-20 years.
These guy's are one of the quietest's conure's. Our Peach-fronted Conure is louder then my Green-cheeks.
All living conure species are found in Central and South America.
Cage: At least 24x16x16 and 1/4" bat spacing. These guys are total clowns. So the larger the cage, the better. Make sure cage has corners. When a parrot is scared they go to a cage cornor.
Diet: Small pellets, some seed (for small birds), millet, pasta, wild rice, scrambled eggs. old fashion oatmeal, grits, leafy greens (bok-choy, collard greens, mustard greens, and kale etc), birdie bread, fresh fruits, and veggies
I dont buy any seed mix that is sunflower seed based. Sunflower seeds are high in fat. I buy a Safflower based mix, add a small amout of black sunflower seeds, hemp, flax, pumpkin seeds, and wheat groat etc. to it.
Toys: Green Cheeks need plenty of toys to keep them busy. They are very energetic and need tons of toys to keep them busy. No mirrors should be placed in a cage. They see themselves in the mirror and think they have a friend.
DANGER'S
Overheated non-stick cook ware: Teflon
Air fresheners: Plug Ins, candles, and Febreze
Aerosol sprays: bug spray, hair spray, paint, and household cleaners.
Apple seed's, caffeine, corn cob bedding(grows mold), cigarette smoke, avacado's and perfumes.
